    Note:  For this assignment, you'll want to spend some time searching the internet for a picture that would work well for this technique.     For example, you could do a google image search for "dark foreground photo".  

    Alternately, you could just use THIS photo or THIS photo or THIS photo.

    2. Assignment #7:   Contrast Mask
        1. Class:  Friday, April 18th
        2. Must be completed before:  Friday, April 25th
        3. Overview:  This tutorial demonstrates how to use a ‘contrast mask’ to adjust the contrast on selected areas of an image.   The contrast mask allows you to make certain areas (often areas that are too dark) more visible.  
          1. Open GIMP 2.  
          2. Open a web browser and navigate to this page:
            1. http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ContrastMask/
            2. Read through the tutorial.
            3. Open one of your own images that you can use a CONTRAST MASK to make the image look better.  If you don’t have one of your own images, you may use one that you find on the internet.  
            4. Save or export your original image (before you adjust it) to your photography folder as:  “18_ContrastMaskOriginal.jpg”
            5. Follow the steps in the tutorial to adjust the contrast over a selected area.  
            6. To complete this assignment, you need to create and export your adjusted image to your photography folder using the name:  “18_ContrastMaskEdited.jpg”
